Sponsor an AA Member in Prison
Want to Sponsor an AA Member in Prison?
It’s Easier Than You Think!
Your Anonymity Is Protected!
There is a vital need for AA members from the outside to sponsor AA members in prison.
To understand this need, ask yourself:
Could I have gotten sober without the help of a sponsor?
If your answer is “maybe not,” then you understand the vital need.
Inside members frequently tell our volunteers that they’re not comfortable sharing their deepest secrets with other alcoholics in prison, due to the possibility that the information may not remain confidential. The consequences of sensitive information being revealed inside can be catastrophic. That’s why H&I pioneered the groundbreaking Inside Visiting Sponsorship Service (IVSS).
Anonymously Sponsor An AA Member in Prison From the Security & Convenience of your Home
(Due to prison regulations, meeting volunteers are ineligible to participate at the facility where they volunteer.)
Requirements for IVSS Volunteers:
- Minimum five years of sobriety
- Solid sponsorship experience
- Knowledge and practice of AA’s Steps and Traditions
- Willingness to anonymously text, receive phone calls, and exchange letters
We match same-gender sponsors, but anyone can help by spreading the word.

I AM RESPONSIBLE
When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there— And for that, I am responsible.
