Adult Population
Qualifications for Corrections
- One year of sobriety.
- Five years with no drug arrests.
- Attended H&I meetings and did panels on the hospital or rehab for at least six months.
- I am committed to doing at least one panel a month.
Juvenile Population

CLEARANCE GUIDELINES
CONTRACT AND VOLUNTEER APPLICANTS SERVICING THE JUVENILE POPULATION
The following guidelines have been established as grounds for disqualification for use by the Department's Backgrounds staff in evaluating background records of candidates for service.
The guidelines for convictions are to be used irrespective of the sentence imposed. All questionable offenses are to be referred to the manager of Background Investigations. The guidelines apply to a time period of: on or after the 15th birthday.
NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR CLEARANCE:
- Conviction of any sex offense
- Conviction of crimes against children
- Conviction of crimes with weapons within the last five (5) years
- Conviction of escape or as an accessory
- Conviction of arson
- Conviction of animal cruelty
- Conviction of sale and/or distribution of drugs within the last five (5) years
- Convicted of bringing a controlled substance into a secured detention facility.
- Civil Commitment as a mentally disordered offender or sexually violent predator
- Must not have been taken into custody for psychiatric assessment or treatment in the preceding 12 months.
- Conviction of Human Trafficking
- Currently on pre-trial, parole, probation and/or community supervision
- No outstanding warrants or wants
ADDITIONAL DISQUALIFIERS SUBJECT TO DEPARTMENTAL REVIEW:
- Subject of an Active Restraining Order
Failure to Disclose - Candidate subject to disqualification for any omissions or false statements pertaining to any occurrence in the past five (5) years made on the application or any required document.
Maybe subject to additional review of applicable police reports and/or narrative to determine if conviction meets the above criteria and disqualification appropriate.
APPEAL RIGHTS
If you believe that an error has been made in reviewing your records resulting in your disqualification, you may file an appeal with the Manager of Backgrounds. The appeal must be in writing and provide specific facts and information, demonstrating where the error occurred. Any appeal that fails to contain such information will be denied as insufficient. The appeal must be received by the Manager within ten (10) business days from which the individual was notified of their disqualification.
